The Board of Studies of the Graduate School of Creative Arts and Media has responsibility for the academic programmes of the school. It ensures the highest academic standards in the development and delivery of the core programme and is charged with implementing the overall academic vision of the school. The Board of Studies comprises the dean, the graduate school fellows, academic personnel drawn from the collaborating institutions, and invited external experts. The membership of the Board of Studies currently comprises:

terms of reference
- The Board of Studies is the key academic quality assurance and enhancement
measure for the Graduate School. It is charged with responsibility for
the quality of academic content, the fostering of the research agenda
of the school and the monitoring of academic standards within the programme.
It will furnish a regular report to the Academic Councils of the collaborating
institutions through the appropriate mechanism identified in respect
of each collaborator. The Board of Studies will report via the Dean
to the Board of Management.
- The Board of Studies shall consist of the Dean, the Development Manager,
the Institutional Research Co-ordinators (“Fellows”), two nominees of
each of the collaborating institutions (DIT, IADT, NCAD and UU), two
student representatives and two co-opted external members. It will meet
a minimum of five times yearly. It will implement a standing committee
consisting of the Dean, the Development Manager, the Institutional Research
Co-ordinators and a student representative.
- Its operational remit shall include:
- The construction of the annual calendar of programme and events for the Graduate School.
- The recommendation of (internal or external) co-supervisors as appropriate against specific Graduate School researchers.
- The recommendation of external examiners as appropriate against specific Graduate School researchers.
- The review of regular reports from members of the supervisory team with respect to the progress of Graduate School researchers. Reporting to the collaborating institutions on student progress via the research co-ordinators (“Fellows”).
- The recommendation to Academic Council(s) (or delegated bodies thereof) in relation to academic matters pertaining to Graduate School researchers.
- The development of supervisor enhancement initiatives, supports and measures.
- The maintenance of appropriate records and files on participants.
- Its strategic remit shall include:
- The development of collaborative, inter-institutional and joint accreditation framework proposals, modules and programmes for masters and doctoral research across the creative arts and media.
- The development of innovative research-oriented academic programme events, content and formats for the creative arts and media sector (NQF levels 8, 9 and 10.)
- The development of initiatives to enhance the research infrastructure for the creative arts and media sector.
- The development of placement models for doctoral researchers across creative, arts and media.
- To advise the Dean on discipline diversity and discipline balance.
